Finally, Simon urges companies to improve their planning and decision-making processes.
“ Organisations need to focus on applying fit-for-purpose valuation approaches to quantify the financial impacts of sustainability-related risks and opportunities, assess the return on investment in addressing them, and make the cost of inaction clear,” Simon says.
“ Only then can sustainability move to the core of business decision-making where it belongs.”
It is often difficult to show a clear link between sustainability and financial gains in different sectors because the right framework is missing.
To help address this, KPMG mapped core sustainability matters to the financial drivers of over 100 sub-sectors to prove where correlations exist, enabling teams to provide the evidence to business leaders in the language they understand.
