SUSTAINABLE SEQUINS MADE FROM AGRICULTURAL WASTE
Most conventional sequins are made from petroleum-derived plastics like PVC and PET. Dr. Jessica Ciarla, Associate Professor at The University of Texas at Austin, explains:“ When produced, conventional sequins release toxic chemicals causing significant environmental and health risks. They also break down over time, becoming a source of microplastic pollution.” She has created sustainable sequins using plant-based polylactic acid( PLA) that are compostable and non-toxic. Particles of Color sequins are derived from agricultural waste and natural pigments in a variety of colours, shapes and sizes.
