COP28

Born from the visionary Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro , Brazil , in 1992 , the Conference of the Parties ( COP ) emerged as a pivotal element of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( UNFCCC ). This landmark international environmental treaty was created with a bold ambition : to confront and mitigate the impacts of human activities on the planet and its climate . At the heart of this mission lies COP , an assembly of governments from around the globe , converging as decision-makers .

At its core , COP ’ s mission is multifaceted and dynamic . It is the arena where nations collectively scrutinise the effectiveness of the Convention , ensuring the battle against climate change steers its course . COP ’ s role extends to evaluating global progress in this area and fostering new , robust commitments to cut greenhouse gas ( GHG ) emissions . Taking place annually , COP is more than just a meeting of countries ; it ’ s a melting pot of ideas and collaborations , where each member country brings to the table its unique perspective and resolve to tackle one of the most pressing challenges of our time : climate change .
Following 28 years of climate advocacy through and developing in accordance with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals ( SDGs ), the United Nations ’ ( UN ) COP closed its latest annual event in December 2023 .
Held in the international city of Dubai , United Arab Emirates ( UAE ), global leaders descended on The Middle East ’ s most prestigious commercial hub with connections to the rest of the world ’ s business landscape .
