Sumitomo Rubber Industries ’ history begins in 1909 when Dunlop UK established Japan ’ s first modern rubber factory . The company produced the first Japanese-made automobile tyre in 1913 and now produces products such as tennis balls and golf balls , alongside tyres .

Sumitomo launched the Falken brand in 1983 to create ‘ top-class ’ tyres . Falken Motorsports and US distribution of its tyres began in 1985 before opening offices in Europe in 1988 and the USA in 1991 .

In 1999 , Falken took part in the 24-hour race at Germany ’ s most famous race track , the Nürburgring . It has continued to race each year and now runs two Porsche 911 GT3 R cars .

Falken also has a strong presence in drifting events with its tyres used by professional drivers and a history of sponsorship in prominent drifting events .
