Mark McKenna’ s journey to becoming a sustainability leader has been anything but conventional. His career began in architecture before expanding into construction management and research roles with non-governmental organisations( NGOs) and academic institutions. These experiences gave him a deep understanding of the global economic and environmental challenges that underpin sustainability today.
“ I started in architecture but quickly realised I wanted to learn more,” Mark recalls.“ I moved into construction management and later into research and development, working with NGOs and academic institutes. It was a completely different environment, but it gave me the fundamentals I needed to understand the challenges facing economies and sustainability globally.”
For more than 15 years, Mark has focused on engineering and consultancy roles, culminating in his position as Global Sustainability Director at Arcadis nearly three years ago. His multidisciplinary background enables him to address sustainability challenges from many perspectives.
