REGULATIONS
Europe will be the first climate-neutral continent on the planet by 2050. This bold and ambitious target set by the EU positions it at the forefront of the green economy. The EU is often seen as one of the leading intergovernmental bodies on climate policy, introducing regulatory frameworks for its member states like the Green Finance Deal, Clean Industrial Deal and advocating for a tripling of renewable energy capacity at COP28. However, its regulationfirst approach to climate action is in the spotlight, as companies grapple to be competitive on a global stage and drive innovation. In response, EU officials and parliamentarians are seeking to change reporting standards including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive( CSRD), Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive( CS3D) and the EU Taxonomy, under the banner of simplification, as part of an‘ Omnibus’ package.
The EU Omnibus signals a reset of the sustainability reporting landscape, and has the eyes of the business and sustainability leaders on it. At its core, CSRD aims to enhance and standardise sustainability reporting, moving it to the same level as financial reporting. This allows investors to confidently evaluate the credentials of peer companies and enables flows of sustainable finance.
