COP30: I’ M HOPEFUL, BUT NOT OPTIMISTIC
November 2025 sees COP30 take place in Brazil and, while the rainforest is certainly a dramatic backdrop to such important conversations, the energy around the event feels far from vibrant. Many sustainability leaders seem to be opting for an alternative itinerary this year, away from the main agenda, so maybe those conversations will propel more action.
In a year that has seen more failed talks for the Global Plastics Treaty, a continued acceleration away from the warming targets set out in The Paris Agreement and more concerning reports, COP30 has a lot of work to do.
I’ m sure many, like me, will be keeping a close eye on the outcomes from COP30. I’ m hopeful, but I wouldn’ t stretch as far as optimistic. Fingers crossed that I’ m proved wrong.
