Speaker spotlight: Motorsports Two sessions that created a buzz on the floor at Sustainability LIVE London were the keynote presentations from the Envision Racing Formula E Team and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team.
Sylvain Filippi, Managing Director and CTO of the Envision Racing Formula E Team, captivated the audience with a vision of sport as a catalyst for climate action.
Formula E, the world’ s first all-electric single-seater championship, isn’ t just racing in iconic cities like London, Monaco and Tokyo, it’ s rewriting the future of mobility.
Sylvain revealed cars hitting 0 – 60mph in 1.82 seconds, 30 % faster than Formula 1, with over 95 % efficiency and 40 % of race energy regenerated on track.
He reminded attendees that Formula E has been net zero since day one, pioneering battery recycling, sustainable materials and reduced carbon fibre use, while topping global sustainability benchmarks three years running.
Navigating sustainable innovation in high-performance motorsports Alice Ashpitel, Head of Sustainability at Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, revealed how one of the world’ s most successful motorsport teams is rewriting the rules of high-performance racing through sustainability.
She showcased how Mercedes is tackling emissions across five continents, pioneering the use of biofuels in logistics and working to build demand for sustainable aviation.

At home, the team is decarbonising its Brackley factory, improving efficiency and embedding wellbeing and inclusion into its culture.
On the track, Mercedes is using precision manufacturing to cut waste and pushing towards biobased carbon fibre composites in the W16 chassis.
Beyond racing, the team is investing in permanent carbon removal to offset unavoidable emissions.
