didn’ t start with a new build that we could control from the beginning.
For example, we’ ve had the Manchester Hotel in operation for 16 years. We had planned an upcoming renovation, but then we added the verified net zero status on top which meant fully electrifying the hotel. We added investment on top of the rebranding and full electrification to eliminate Scope 1 and 2, which we did in a fairly short amount of time.
We got informal approval in December 2023, and then of course we needed to define how we were going to do it. From the beginning, we said that verification and covering all three scopes were key.
We looked at our lease properties, where all the staff are employed by us, and we looked at where big renovations were happening but where they were early enough in planning that we could add to the plans.
