SUSTAINABILITY
WHAT ARE THE WIDER BENEFITS OF THE NET ZERO HOTELS? Aside from the obvious sustainability benefits, a lot of it is about people.
We’ re engaging our guests with sustainability – there is information on the app to see about waste minimisation, our local partners, the chef’ s uniforms made partially from recycled material, the sustainable crockery supplier, the upcycled furniture supplier and much more.
We’ re taking the staff along with us – the chef is incredibly passionate about it now but was very dubious, all the housekeeping team of course are involved in the recycling – and by taking people along with us on that journey, we have an impact within the site and a butterfly effect beyond that. By upskilling the chef in that way, wherever he goes next or in his home life he’ s going to have that knowledge to make those choices.
It’ s also a matter of pride. We work with a range of local food partners to tell the story, to reduce our impact and to support local small businesses.
We collaborate a lot with other chains on sustainability. We have defined a pathway to net positive hospitality together, underpinned by KPIs. We do a lot of things together, and I think we’ re all learning from each other basically by the transparency that we provide. I say there’ s no competition in saving the planet and that’ s true – the other chains do other things really well and then we all share and learn from each other.
We’ re proud to be sending market signals to clients, owners, our teams and suppliers, as well as the other chains.
