Smarter Energy, Real Results: LEA Transforms Northwest Healthcare Systems

At Leading Edge Automation, we believe our role goes far beyond traditional Building Management Systems( BMS). We’ re not just in the business of controls. We’ re in the business of outcomes.
The 44 Musk Avenue project with North West Health Care is a powerful example of how our technology solutions deliver measurable performance, empowering our clients to redefine what’ s possible with energy management.
A Vision for Smarter, Sustainable Operations
When North West Health Care approached us, their building in Brisbane’ s CBD was constrained by a legacy control system and struggling to make the most of its 400kWh rooftop solar array. Regulatory limitations on grid exports meant solar energy was being wasted. Energy costs were rising, thermal systems lacked responsiveness, and the building’ s performance potential remained untapped.
The challenge wasn’ t just to upgrade infrastructure. It was to unlock value from every watt produced and every degree of cooling delivered. Our mission was clear: turn their building into an adaptive, intelligent energy hub.
Innovation That Works for You
At the heart of this transformation was an Alerton controls and Optergy EMS, replacing a fragmented and outdated system with one that listens, learns, and acts in real time. But we didn’ t stop at control. We engineered intelligence.
We integrated a custom-built logic engine that connected solar production, Ice Storage tanks, and the AEMO Spot Market. When energy prices dropped and the sun was shining, the system automatically entered“ Ice Build” mode, charging thermal tanks using chilled glycol. When prices rose or solar dipped, it seamlessly switched to“ Ice Melt,” cooling the building while reducing reliance on the grid.
