THE ELECTRIC MOUNTAIN
GE Vernova is upgrading Dinorwig Power Station, a pumped hydro storage project known as The Electric Mountain in northern Wales. Pumped hydro storage is becoming more important in low-carbon energy systems, especially for balancing the grid, and First Hydro is making improvements to meet today’ s hydropower standards. The project includes upgrades to the motor generators, pump turbines and control system. The site, with a capacity of 1.73GW, began operating in 1984.
