ENERGY TRANSITION
Q. WHAT IS THE IMPACT ON A BUSINESS WHEN ITS BUILDING CANNOT ADAPT QUICKLY TO CHANGING OCCUPANCY PATTERNS OR HYBRID WORK MODELS?

ยป The consequences are both operational and human. Operationally, organisations can end up heating, cooling, lighting and maintaining spaces that are no longer being used efficiently. This drives unnecessary costs at a time when every organisation is focused on productivity and efficiency.

On the human side, expectations have changed significantly. People increasingly expect workplaces to support collaboration, wellbeing, flexibility and comfort. Buildings that cannot adapt struggle to provide those experiences.
One trend we have seen consistently is that high-quality, adaptable workplaces continue attracting people even as broader office occupancy patterns evolve. The building itself increasingly becomes part of the employee experience.
A good example is Hanza Tower in Poland, where part of the office space was transformed into a showroom and event space. The challenge was ensuring the building could support different functions, occupancy levels and user requirements without creating additional complexity for operators.
Through an open building automation system, lighting, shading and other building functions could be managed flexibly to suit different uses of the space.
