9Since 2015, Unilever has reduced its
operational greenhouse gas emissions by 74 % through its transition to renewable electricity and lowering the climate impact of its products. The company has also called for others to get more engaged in climate advocacy and step up efforts. In its Climate Policy Engagement Review, Unilever found that some industry associations it works with were not aligned with its priority policy areas for sustainability. The company is taking action to encourage climatefocussed efforts beyond its own business. Through the CIRCLE Alliance, a US $ 21m public-private collaboration, Unilever is looking to scale packaging circularity to reduce plastic waste. It aims to support entrepreneurs and small businesses across the plastics value chain and scale solutions that tackle plastic waste and reduce use. Unilever has reduced its own virgin plastic use by 18 % and increased its use of recycled plastic to 22 %.
