THE WORLD’ S LARGEST OFFSHORE WIND FARM HORNSEA, UK
With a total capacity of 1.32GW, Ørsted’ s Hornsea 2 is the largest operational offshore wind farm in the world. Located 89km off the Yorkshire coast in the North Sea, it began full operations in August 2022.
This colossal project, capable of supplying more than 1.4 million UK homes with green electricity, boasts an impressive array of 165 8MW Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. Each turbine stands approximately 200 meters tall from sea level to the tip of its 81-meter blades, with a single rotation of one turbine generating enough electricity to power an average UK home for 24 hours.
Hornsea 2 is not just an engineering marvel but a testament to the UK’ s commitment to renewable energy and a significant step towards achieving the government’ s ambitious goal of 50 gigawatts of offshore wind operation by 2030.
