Populus Denver is widely seen as the first hotel in the United States to be classified as carbon-positive. It incorporates a biophilic design with an on-site biodigester to compost all of its food waste. For every night each guest stays at the hotel, the ownership commits to planting a tree in the nearby Colorado forests. The carbon emissions during the hotel’ s construction have been reduced through sustainable design, construction techniques, carbon credits and additional large-scale planting efforts.
