The Fogo Island Inn is operated as a social enterprise by Shorefast, a Canadian charity dedicated to supporting the local community. All operating profits are reinvested to support heritage projects, arts programmes and economic resilience on Fogo Island. The building utilises thermal insulation, triple-pane glass and locally sourced materials, while low-carbon systems, such as solar thermal roof collectors and a central wood boiler, provide heating and hot water. Rainwater is collected for toilet flushing and advanced greywater systems treat wastewater.
