SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGIES
Where motorsport matters in the real world The technical innovations pioneered in Formula E translate directly to road vehicles. Formula E pioneered ultra-high voltage architecture. When Envision Racing started, EVs used 400-volt systems. Formula E pushed to 700 volts and later to 800.
Road car manufacturers then followed.“ It was trialled and tested in real life by Formula E,” Filippi says.“ No question. It didn’ t exist before, and then it trickles down to the tier one suppliers which then help the manufacturers implement that.”
More efficiency means more range, more speed or, increasingly, a smaller battery.“ Which means the car is cheaper, is lighter and more efficient,” Sylvain says.“ We are about to start this exciting cycle where batteries and cars are going to become smaller, not bigger.” Smaller batteries mean lower costs of ownership, reduced environmental impact and fewer materials are required to create a vehicle.
