By some estimates , by 2038 10 % of global energy will be consumed by the IT sector , which is pretty staggering given today we ’ re roughly 2 %. But , the most alarming part of the challenge is the data waste . More than two thirds of data that is created is never used again . In other words , it ’ s dark data . It ’ s data that we create and then it sits there , it ’ s never touched again , and that data is consuming resources .
This is a data challenge , but it ’ s also a sustainability challenge . From NetApp ’ s perspective , we see a critical opportunity where we ’ re really well positioned to add value and enable our customers
