THE SUSTAINABILITY INTERVIEW
“ To embed energy efficiency across our designs, it’ s critical there is connective tissue running across departments,” Justin explains.
AMD’ s Corporate Power initiative illustrates that approach. It brings together teams working on chip architecture, semiconductor design, computer systems, software and applications. The aim is to improve efficiency across the technology stack rather than treating energy consumption as the responsibility of a single engineering team.
AMD has also linked strategic productdevelopment milestones, including energy-efficiency measures, to its company-wide bonus structure.
“ Ultimately, we are accountable for achieving our public goals that serve as a flag on top of the mountain for the engineering teams to manically pursue,” Justin says.

“ As our technology reaches more people, industries and applications, we have focused on deeply embedding responsible business practices across the company”

AMD advancing AI 2026
From processors to complete racks AMD’ s latest efficiency target is its 20x30 goal. It aims to deliver a 20-fold improvement in energy efficiency for AI training and inference at rack scale between 2024 and 2030.
AMD estimates that it achieved a fourfold improvement between 2024 and mid-2026, putting the company ahead of the projected trend towards the 2030 target. The target builds on earlier AMD commitments. Its 25x20 goal sought a 25-fold energy-efficiency improvement for mobile laptop processors between 2014 and 2020.“ We achieved 31.7x,” Justin says.
AMD’ s subsequent 30x25 goal focused on accelerated computing nodes used for artificial intelligence training and high-performance computing.
