THE SUSTAINABILITY INTERVIEW
“ These technologies have enormous potential to improve people’ s lives,” he says.“ We also recognise their potential for negative environmental and social impact.”
This tension sits at the centre of Justin’ s leadership agenda. AMD must help customers meet growing demand for computing while reducing the electricity and infrastructure required to deliver it.
Designing more compute per watt Justin identifies product energy efficiency as AMD’ s greatest environmental opportunity.“ The more useful compute we deliver for each watt of energy, the more we help customers meet growing computing needs,” he says.
In practical terms, performance per watt measures how much useful computing work a system delivers for the electricity it consumes. This measure is becoming increasingly important as datacentre operators encounter constraints on power, cooling, water and physical space.
“ Nowhere is this more important than the data centre, given the increasing demands on power, cooling, water and space in this AI era,” Justin says.
For the CSO, improving efficiency is not simply an engineering objective – it requires governance, incentives and accountability across AMD.
