Nestlé aims to plant 200 million trees by 2030 in the regions where it gets its materials. The company uses the Forest Positive Framework and its Global Reforestation Programme instead of buying carbon credits. Nestlé invests directly in restoring the areas within its supply chains, especially in Southeast Asia, West Africa and Latin America. This connects ecological restoration to its raw material sources and includes smallholder farmers and local communities as long-term caretakers of the land.

“ What we are always looking for are solutions to help address the challenges people face that make sense for the communities we serve and for Nestlé,” says Antonia Wanner, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at Nestlé.“ What is clear is that there is never just one solution to each problem.”
By planting native fruit, shade and timber trees alongside crops like cocoa and coffee, smallholder farmers can earn more and become more resilient to climate challenges. The programme partners with technical NGOs to fund long-term projects, offering training to local groups managing tree nurseries, tracking tree survival and monitoring biodiversity.
