Extreme E is an off-road racing series that uses electric SUVs to race in remote parts of the world . Locations include the Saudi Arabian desert and near glaciers in Greenland . Each location is chosen to raise awareness on climate change .
The championship features teams like NEOM Mclaren XE , Nico Rosberg ’ s Rosberg X Racing , Jenson Button ’ s JBXE , Andretti Altawkilat XE and E . ON Next Veloce Racing .
Race cars , event infrastructure and operational equipment are transported between races using a former Royal Mail ship called the St Helena , producing 75 % less CO₂ emissions than air freight .
The series attracted a global audience of 144 million viewers in 2023 . Founder Alejandro Agag announced the creation of Extreme H in 2022 , featuring cars powered by hydrogen fuel cells . The inaugural season of Extreme H will replace Extreme E and begin in 2025 .
